Reminds Bicyclists to "Use Your Head by Wearing a Helmet"
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has been reporting for
years that wearing a helmet while riding a bike can save your life. Cole Kertz,
an 8-year-old from Bloomington, Ill., can now vouch for this first-hand.
Doctors tell him if he had not been wearing his helmet, he would have died
last summer when he crashed into a pole while riding his bike. Even with the
helmet, he suffered a severely broken jaw, which had to be wired shut to heal.

Bicycles Sold at Toys R Us Recalled by Dynacraft
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC),
Dynacraft Industries Inc., of San Rafael, Calif., is voluntarily recalling
about 54,000 mountain bicycles. The pedals on these bicycles can loosen and
fall off while riding, resulting in serious injury to the rider.

Buoyancy Compensator Devices (BCDs) Recalled by Sheico PKS Inc.
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Sheico
PKS Inc., of Carlsbad, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 10,000 scuba
buoyancy compensator devices (BCDs), which are used by divers to maintain
neutral buoyancy. The overpressure valve can stick in the open position,
presenting a drowning hazard to divers. Sheico has received one report of a
valve sticking open. No injuries have been reported.

Computer Batteries Recalled by Dell Computer Corp.
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Dell
Computer Corp., of Austin, Texas, is voluntarily recalling about 284,000
batteries used in notebook-style personal computers. These batteries can
overcharge, causing them to become very hot, release smoke, and possibly catch
fire.

Firms Announce Recall of Novelty Cigarette Lighters and Propane Torches
Tools Exchange Inc., of Lynwood, Calif., is recalling about 5,300 novelty
cigarette lighters. Harbor Freight Tools, of Camarillo, Calif., is voluntarily
recalling about 500 propane torches.

NHTSA, Evenflo Announce Recall to Repair EvenfloŽ JoyrideŽ Car Seats/Carriers
In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and the
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Evenflo Co. Inc., of
Vandalia, Ohio, is recalling about 3.4 million JoyrideŽ infant car
seats/carriers. When the seat is used as an infant carrier, the handle can
unexpectedly release, causing the seat to flip forward. When this happens, an
infant inside the carrier can fall to the ground and suffer serious injuries.
